The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Good: It's been a gorgeous summer, the best weather ever! I had the opportunity to teach encaustics this summer through the School of Art at Chautauqua Institution. There were 3 workshops, two for the public and one for the artist's residency program here. We converted the Print Studio into an encaustic studio, and no one seemed to mind the heat too much?
Also Good: The Chautauqua Art Gallery moved into a larger space in Jamestown, NY, just up the road from the National Comedy Center (which is an awesome venue as well). I’m so pleased to be a part of this beautiful new space!
The Bad: Covid caught up with me — and then got me on the rebound. I was quarantined for much of July.
The Ugly: The attack on Salman Rushdie shook us all here at Chautauqua. Such a senseless act of violence, and unfortunately a reminder that there are few safe spaces left. I’m thankful to have my art practice as a form of escape from the real world at times.
To end on a happier note: An image of a new encaustic recently in the show Thinking Green at Fowler-Kellogg Gallery at Chautauqua Institution.
Stay in touch — I love hearing from you all!
