This piece reminded me of a trip to Cuba that I once took— the vibrant colors, the warmth of the Cuban people, the art; but also of the decay that’s claiming much of the beauty of the cities. I began with a lot of collage pieces, including hand made rust paper. I finished with oil paints and a cold wax, so there is a lot of interesting texture in this piece—just like the island!
